Amos O’Neal, Saginaw County Commissioner and candidate for

the 95th District of the Michigan House of Representatives, issued the following statement on the passing of Justice Ruth Baber Ginsburg:

 

 

Our condolence and prayers to the family of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsbury. We have lost a giant in the Supreme Court. She had worked her entire career to change the course of history for the better. Her work for the equality for women and men were unmatched. Her landmark opinions advanced the rights of women, Immigrants and disabled people which are helping our nation to achieve equality and justice for all. She was one of the most brilliant legal minds our country has ever seen. She was the second woman to ever serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. May we continue in her memory and build a future that honors the history she shaped.

O'Neal Issues Statement on Passing of Mr. Alberto Vargas

Amos O’Neal, Saginaw County Commissioner and candidate for

the 95th District of the Michigan House of Representatives, issued the following

statement on the passing of Mr. Alberto Vargas:

“I am sad to hear that Mr. Alberto Vargas, the founder of the Vargas & Sons Tortillas

has passed away. Mr. Vargas came to the Saginaw community over fifty years ago to

make a new life in our State. He and his wife, Pauline, eventually began Vargas & Sons

Tortillas and it has been in their family over the past five decades. My sincerest

condolences to the Vargas family on their loss this weekend.”

UA Local 333 Endorses O'Neal Ahead of Primary

Amos O’Neal, Saginaw County Commissioner and candidate for the 95th District of the Michigan House of Representatives, announced the following endorsement by the UA Local 333 of Lansing, Michigan.  The local represents the plumbers, pipefitters and HVACR service members of the Lansing, Jackson, and Battle Creek areas.

 

O’Neal stated “I appreciate the support of UA Local 333  endorsement of my campaign. I will do my best to represent the hard working men and women of the labor movement in Lansing.”

Saginaw County Reopening Offices to Public

Saginaw County will reopen its public offices and services Monday, Aug. 3, but only by appointment, according to a news release issued Wednesday, July 29.

County facilities have been closed since mid-March because of the coronavirus pandemic. In preparation for reopening to the public, the county started deep cleaning the facilities, installed barriers at service counters and work stations, provided face coverings to employees and updated its policies and procedures, according to the release. To limit exposure to staff and residents, services are also limited to appointments only and residents are expected to wear masks or facial coverings during visits.

Amos O’Neal Statement on the Death of Mr. George Floyd

“Mr. George Floyd was murdered in broad daylight by a white Minneapolis Police Officer. He was handcuffed, with his hands behind his back, lying on his stomach pleading "I can't breathe, I can't breathe." The officers ignored the plea, even from bystanders who were asking and begging for the officer to release his neck.

 

"We have watched these senseless murders happen, time after time with too many people of color.  It is because of systemic racism. This is a chronic problem and many of us are outraged when it happens, which we should be, but we must address the problem."
